I have created a Microsoft Team Class for my class that way we can actually chat with each other and check in as well as hold video chats. I can also give you feedback on your work and you will be able to access work that is on the blog. This will hopefully be a great place to come to actual see you and privately answer class overall questions. We will still use the blog but sometimes I may say lets have a video chat. Click on the ABOVE BUTTON to join the team when you get there send me a chat saying hello.
Greetings 6th Grade Scholars
Morning Check In: First of all I miss each of you. I had a hard time realizing that I may not get to see some of you ever again. I hope that you learned something from the time we did have togehter and I hope you learned skills that will help you grow as a scholar. Most importantly I hope you learned something you never knew in science. Please let me know if I can do anything for you all
Hopefully you had the opportunity to learn about the various plate boundaries and the geological features created from those plate boundaries. You should have learned that various plate boundary movements help to create geological features such as mountains, islands, earthquakes, and rift valley(cracks in the surface of the earth). Plates are the slabs of rocks that most of our continents and oceans ride upon as they are drifting.
Lesson Overview: Today you will demonstrate what you have learned by stating a Claim aloing with providing Evidence and Reasoning as to why these events may be taking place on earth. Monday-Wednesday you had the opportunity to become familiar with the boundaries and the geological events associated. If you did not complete any of the activities I would advise that you do so as it will help with your C.E.R. responses
Did you know people in Indian are reporting that they can clearly see the Himalayan Mountains due to the reduction in pollution from everyone staying home from COVID 19? The picture at the bottom explains with pictures how the Himalayan Mountains were created. Which plate boundary is responsible for the formation of the Himalayan Mountains(Convergence, Divergence, Transform or Subduction) What do you think?
Learning Topic: Theory of Plate Tectonics/Plate Boundaries and Geological Events
Lesson Target:I will be able to use CER to write about plate boundaries using evidence and reasoning to support my claim.
Lesson Instructions
1. Watch the Plate Tectonics video via Brain Pop. You can click on the Green button to go to the website. Make sure to search for Plate Tectonics and watch the video
2. From the brain pop website complete the worksheet on your own along with the video.(This will help you with your C.E.R by providing more details for your evidence)
3. Read the C.E.R Rubric found on the orange button to see how your Claim Evidence will be scored. As you are writing please try to use as many of the following vocabulary words as possible in your writing to ensure that your writing receives the highest score based on the rubric.
Tectonic plate, Convection currents, Seismic waves, Density, Divergent, Convergent, Transform, Subduction, Earthquakes, Volcano, Ocean trench, Mid-ocean ridge, Mountain
4. Choose 1 of the 2 following C.E.R Responses to write about in the Microsoft Form. The Microsoft Form can be found using the Green Button
C.E.R CHOICES( You will only have to choose 1 to respond to in the Microsoft Forms- make sure you utilize information you learned this week to make your claim and provide evidence.
1. Are plate tectonics more harmful or beneficial for human life?
2. What will be the effect on the earth if plate tectonics stop?
